Are you concerned about the massive amounts of paper your law firm uses each day?  Do you creep through the halls at the end of the day turning off lights that were left burning long after attorneys and staff members went home?  Would you like to learn more about how you can reduce your consumption and use resources responsibly?  If you answered yes to any of these questions or if you are interested in learning how to create and promote a sustainable office environment, then NALS is here to help.

With their heavy use of paper, law offices aren’t typically considered green enterprises.

In fact, in 2006, Arnold & Porter, an international law firm, surveyed various sizes of law firms and found that printer and copier usage ranged from approximately 20,000 to 100,000 sheets of paper per attorney per year.

Recently, however, this attitude seems to be evolving.  As technology improves and the mindset of our population shifts, many firms have been looking for ways to reduce their global impact and adopt more sustainable office practices.  A group of NALS members recognized this shift in attitude and saw that there was a need for law firms to have a practical, usable guide to help them green their offices.

And so, without any further ado, we are pleased to present the NALS Green Guide. This guide was created to be an easy-to-read resource that can be easily shared electronically.  The guide includes more than just recycling tips – inside you will also find information on greening your commute and reducing office expenses.  You will also find that many of the tips can also be used in your home.

We hope that you find this guide useful and will share it with your firm and with the members of your local legal community.

On behalf of the NALS Green Team, go green!
